Dr. Ranjan Bhattacharyya
Warm regards from the Secretary’s desk.
At the onset let me thank all members for the trust that you gave shown in electing me to this high office. Though I have been fortunate enough to work as the Representative to Zone for the last two years, with very able Secretaries, donning the cap of the Honorary Secretary of the West Bengal Branch of IPS is a daunting task for me. I hope I will be able to live up to your expectations!
An important purpose for the existence of an Organisation like WBIPS is to constantly enhance the knowledge, skills and wisdom of all our fellow members. Hence we have planned to hold monthly academic meetings, where we shall be discussing about various topics relevant to mental health and mental illnesses. WBIPS does not lack expertise amongst its members, and neither is there a dearth of eloquent speakers; hence our first goal would be to tap this wealth of talent and arrange programmes from individuals of the State. Of course we also hope that occasionally we shall have the opportunity to hear national and international faculty also. I seek the valuable suggestions from all our members regarding topics and speakers of these CME programs.
As an assembly of psychiatrists, it is our solemn responsibility to raise awareness about various aspects of mental illnesses. Hence, there will be programmes and workshops specifically designed for the general public, as well as trainees and non-medical personnel working in this field. I would request all visitors to please keep an eye on the news section for advance information about such psycho-educative programmes.
We have also adopted certain environment-friendly measures, as per deliberations at our Annual General Body Meeting held in September 2014. Henceforth, we shall be sending most of our letters through Email, which is fast and involves minimum expense. A copy of these letters will also be available in this website, though members will have to log-in, using their IPS membership number and PIN code, to access this section. However, in case you do not receive these mails, dear Members, I would like to make an earnest request to please send to me (email@example.com) your current email id and phone numbers, at the earliest. We also hope to send information through ‘sms’ in the near future.
Please note that a separate ‘news’ section has been added to our website, which will showcase news about our members, their creative pursuits (even outside psychiatry), and of course happenings pertaining to the field of mental health. All visitors and members are requested to please send through E Mail, the information about newsworthy occurrences and achievements (with a write-up and photographs), so that the information may be adequately dissipated.
Thanking you, in anticipation of your active participation!
Long live IPSWB!
Dr Ranjan Bhattacharyya
